New Orleans, LA - Nov 3, 2009
My daugther is 16 and has traveled from New Orleans to Florida and Texas over the past two years to attend concerts of her favorite band - The Used. She was so excited that they were coming to New Orleans.
I went online to The Used website to see Tour schedule and to purchase tickets. I saw that they were playing all the House of Blues all over the US. The New Orleans HOB was the ONLY venue stating it was a +18 yrs concert. I assumed that was a error because EVERY HOUSE OF BLUES CONCERT (except New Orleans) WAS AN ALL AGES CONCERT. It was not logical that only one venue would state that. She would be attending with her friend's mom as chaperone, so I was not concerned and purchased the tickets.
Well......Last night was the concert and The New Orleans HOB would not let them enter and attend the concert. They would not refund their tickets either!!! She had been anticipating this concert for MONTHS and MONTHS. Obviously she was very upset. She cried herself to sleep last night. Needless to say, I am not happy.

I'm sure this was very disappointing. However, the HoB has a website you could have checked. Additionally, they have a phone number. If this was a doubtful case, why didn't you call? I mean, it SAID "No one under 18". You just assumed it wasn't true, that it was "not logical", you didn't call to check. I think I would look sort of silly talking to a teacher not having followed the instructions on a test saying they were "not logical". She'd say "why didn't you check with me" and I'd be ummmm. Kinda like you are right now I think. And then I'd have to go to my parents and take responsibility for my screwup but you aren't doing that, you are blaming the band I think for your mistake, not theirs. You are ducking your responsiblility for making your daughter way unhappy kinda like they accuse teens of doing but you are way older than me I think and should know better.
However, had you and your daughter hung out near the buses after the show, you could have met the band going to the bus, I'm sure. And what's with the phone number and email? Do you expect to hear from one of the guys? This is a fan board, owned by Warner Music. I really doubt if the band even lurk here. Certainly not when they are touring their hearts out.
Look, I don't mean to come across as unsympathetic, I'm sure it was very disappointing. But this was not the band's fault. They would be very sorry to hear about it, I'm sure, because they want their fans to have a good time. But please, next time there is an uncertainty like this, make some phone calls and check the web. Isn't that just common sense? I rarely go to a show without checking to see, say, what time doors is and that kinda thing.
I hope you and your daughter get to see TU sometime, and that you just see this as a bump in the road on a great journey.
A fellow fan.
